• Avoid Stirring Sediment: Avoid stirring up sediment in shallow, warm freshwater. The amoeba is often found in the sediment at the bottom of lakes and rivers.
• Treat Pools and Spas: Ensure that swimming pools and spas are properly disinfected with chlorine. Maintain adequate chlorine levels and regularly test the water.
• Use Boiled and Cooled Water: If you are using tap water for nasal rinsing (such as with a neti pot), be sure to use water that has been boiled for at least one minute and then cooled. Alternatively, use sterile or distilled water.
