कपिल शर्मा की कहानी हमें सिखाती है कि सपने देखने की कोई उम्र या सीमा नहीं होती। उनका जन्म पंजाब के अमृतसर में हुआ था। एक मध्यमवर्गीय परिवार में पले-बढ़े कपिल के पिता पुलिस विभाग में हेड कांस्टेबल थे और माँ एक गृहिणी। जब 2004 में उनके पिता का निधन कैंसर से हुआ, तो परिवार पर दुखों का पहाड़ टूट पड़ा। उस समय कपिल बहुत छोटे थे, लेकिन जिम्मेदारियों ने उन्हें समय से पहले बड़ा बना दिया।
अक्सर लोग सफलता की चकाचौंध देखते हैं, लेकिन उसके पीछे की काली रातों को नहीं देख पाते। कपिल ने पीसीओ (PCO) में काम किया, दुपट्टे बेचे और न जाने कितने छोटे-मोटे काम किए ताकि घर का खर्च चल सके। यही वह अनुभव है जो उनकी कॉमेडी में झलकता है। जब वे अपनी मां या बुआ का मजाक उड़ाते हैं, तो उसमें एक अपनापन होता है, क्योंकि वह सब उन्होंने जिया है। यही 'रिलेटेबिलिटी' (relatability) उनकी सबसे बड़ी ताकत है।
2007 वह साल था जब कपिल की किस्मत का सितारा चमका। वे 'द ग्रेट इंडियन लाफ्टर चैलेंज' के तीसरे सीजन के विजेता बने। लेकिन क्या आप जानते हैं कि अमृतसर में ऑडिशन के दौरान उन्हें रिजेक्ट कर दिया गया था? जी हाँ, वही कपिल जिसे आज दुनिया सलाम करती है, उसे पहली बार में नाकामी मिली थी। लेकिन उन्होंने हार नहीं मानी, दिल्ली गए और दोबारा ऑडिशन दिया।
जीतने के बाद उन्हें 10 लाख रुपये मिले, जो उस समय उनके परिवार के लिए बहुत बड़ी रकम थी। उन्होंने अपनी बहन की शादी की और अपने सपनों की उड़ान भरने मुंबई आ गए। यह जीत सिर्फ एक ट्रॉफी नहीं थी, बल्कि एक विश्वास था कि kapil sharma अब रुकने वाले नहीं हैं।
