श्रीनगर का मौसम काफी हद तक अप्रत्याशित हो सकता है, लेकिन आम तौर पर इसे चार मुख्य मौसमों में बांटा जा सकता है। हर मौसम का अपना एक अलग आकर्षण है और तापमान भी उसी हिसाब से बदलता रहता है।

गर्मियों में पहलगाम और सोनमर्ग जैसे नजदीकी हिल स्टेशनों की यात्रा करना बहुत सुकून देता है। हालांकि, जुलाई और अगस्त में कभी-कभी हल्की बारिश हो सकती है, जिससे मौसम में थोड़ी उमस आ सकती है, लेकिन यह दिल्ली या मुंबई जैसी उमस नहीं होती। शाम होते ही ठंडी हवाएं सारी थकान मिटा देती हैं।
कश्मीर को 'धरती का स्वर्ग' कहने के पीछे एक बड़ी वजह यहाँ का पतझड़ यानी ऑटम सीजन है। इस समय चिनार के पेड़ अपनी पत्तियों को सुनहरे और लाल रंग में बदल लेते हैं। यह दृश्य किसी पेंटिंग जैसा लगता है। सितंबर में तापमान गिरना शुरू हो जाता है। दिन में यह 15°C से 25°C के आसपास रहता है, लेकिन नवंबर आते-आते ठंड काफी बढ़ जाती है।
